Dear Ones,
On this first
day, we want to be reminded just how important it is to humble
ourselves before God and others. God's word makes it very clear that
"God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." 1
Peter 5:5
God desperately wants to give us grace, blessing, and favor. As
our loving Father, He would like nothing more than to "lift us
up". But there is just one condition, that we humble ourselves
before Him and others. Notice that it is our job to humble ourselves,
and then it is God's privilege to give us grace in response. We
don't earn God's grace, but we do position ourselves properly before
Him, so that we can receive all His blessings. Moses, Jesus, and Paul
all described themselves as humble and attributed this core value to
the favor they received from God.
Humility is an attitude of the heart which gets revealed in our
actions. It is giving God exactly what He wants, in the way He wants it
with the motive of pleasing and glorifying Him. Humility is depending
on God for everything, calling upon the help of the Holy Spirit
throughout the day, and then giving God the credit for all that is
good.
Because humility is such a key to living a blessed life before God, we
suggest you make it a point to understand what it is and what it isn't.
How about reading Andrew Murray's book entitled "Humility",
or Peter Wagner's book with the same title "Humility"?
By the time you get through this material, you will be totally
convinced that humility is really a foundational virtue which is the
basis for all other virtues. You will make the act of humbling yourself
before God and others an important part of your lifestyle.
So during this Daniel Fast, don't focus on what you are or are not
going to eat (or drink). Focus on getting right with God and with
others.
